The Samaritan's Holy Writ consists only of the Pentateuch (the Five Books of Moses, the Torah), though they do seem to have some tradition of significance (but not sanctity) to the book of Joshua (or something very much like it).

The Samaritan Pentateuch (SP) is the oldest Paleo-Hebrew Bible manuscript in the world. Although the extant copy is 1065 AD the Samaritans acquired it from Josiah around 610 BC. Samaritan theology venerates Joshua’s altar on Mt. Gerizim at Shechem and rejects all scripture except for the first five books of Moses. (Torah). Likewise, Samaritan tradition holds that the Samaritan Pentateuch is the genuine version of the Torah, faithfully preserved through the centuries by the Samaritans and traceable all the way back to Abisha, great-grandson of Aaron, brother of Moses. These claims are difficult for modern historical scholarship to confirm or deny. The Christian Madaba map illustrates this ancient Jewish fiction by locating two different sets of Mt. Gerizim and Ebal. The Madaba map marks the correct location of the twin mountains at Shechem and another near Jericho.

The name Pentateuch can be traced at least as far back as AD 200, when Tertullian referred to the first five books of the Bible by that name. Also known as the Torah, which is the Hebrew word meaning “Law,” these five books of the Bible are Genesis, Exodus, Leviticus, Numbers, and Deuteronomy. The word pentateuch is formed by two Greek words, pente (five) and teuchos (book). It means "five vessels," "five containers," or "five-volume book." In Hebrew, the Pentateuch is Torah, meaning "the law" or "instruction." These five books, written almost entirely in Hebrew, are the Bible's books of the law, given to us by God through Moses. The word Pentateuch is a Greek term meaning "five scrolls" and refers to the five scrolls which comprise the Torah and which also comprise the first five books of the Christian Bible. These five books contain a variety of genres and were constructed from source material created over the course of millennia.
